match fundraising campaign celebrates a decade of shark and ray conservation in raja ampat

The Raja Ampat Shark and Ray Sanctuary was established in 2013 by the Raja Ampat government. This significant decision, one that was emulated across the nation, made it illegal to fish sharks and rays and, as a result of this protection, populations are thriving.

Misool Foundation was one of a number of organisations who presented the government with data showing that sharks and rays are worth more alive than dead. Since then, the Misool Ranger Patrol has been enforcing this legislation within the Misool and Batbitim No Take Zones which are located in the Southeast Misool MPA.

This constant vigilance comes at a cost. Patrols are privately funded, and we invest in projects designed to support the local community members and rebuild reefs, thus providing a healthy ecosystem for all creatures to thrive.

your donations doubled

To mark this important anniversary, MAC3 Impact Philanthropies has pledged $100,000 in match funds to support Misool Foundation.

For every dollar that you donate, MAC3 Impact Philanthropies will match it.

Together we have the potential to raise $200,000.

The campaign starts on 1st December 2022 and will run for 12 months, or until we reach our fundraising goals.

we need your help

We take a broad approach to marine conservation, and donations will support one of these critical project areas:

Restore reefs damaged by dynamite fishing, monitoring reef health, measuring fish biomass & shark populations.

Upgrade to Ranger Station facilities at Kalig & Yillet, infrastructure investments, communications upgrades, & associated admin costs.

Supporting alternative livelihoods in Misool, reducing ocean-bound plastics, & supporting local kindergarten.

Thank you to MAC3 Impact Philanthropy for your generous support and for sharing our vision.

Together we are protecting the world’s richest reefs.
