On 30 October 2016, Misool's Ranger Patrol intercepted a ten-ton fishing boat within one of our No-Take-Zones. Together with the Marine Police, our Ranger Patrol boarded the boat which had already laid many kilometres worth of gill-nets across the ocean floor.
warning: disturbing images!! Manta rays are safe inside Misool's No-Take Zone, but oceanic mantas roam far. That's why Misool's charitable foundation, Misool Foundation, has started a manta conservation in Lamakera, a small village in central Indonesia. It's estimated that this tiny village could be responsible for up to one-third of the global manta kill.
Misool's charity arm, Misool Foundation, initiated a Community Recycling Project in April 2014. Called "Bank Sampah" in Indonesian, the project is off to a grand start! Community members collected over 1 ton of plastic rubbish over a period of 2 weeks from the tiny village of Yellu.
